Megan Martin started the Kearsley tournament with a shutout win for Grand Blanc against East Lansing 12-0. Helping with the win were the big bats led by McKenzie Simpson, LaNya Bates, Abby Whitt, Rebecca Oetting, and Martin. We got things started with Brie Broderick diving in one off a single. We had seven runs in the third inning from Simpson, Bates, Whitt, Oetting, and Martin. Annabelle Morningstar went deep in the fifth inning for a home run, second of the season. Martin went five innings allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out ten, and walking zero. Our defense didn’t commit a single error.
Our second game brought Kendall Klochack to the mound against Utica Eisenhower with a shutout win 9-0. She allowed three hits, walked one, zero runs, and struck out 12. We got things moving in the first inning when Klochack doubled on a 2-0 count scoring one run. In the fourth inning we scored five runs by Rebecca Oetting, Megan Martin, Olivia Bainbridge, and Madyson Roover all drove in runs. Klochack and LaNya Bates each collected multiple hits for GB.
Our championship game was against Bay City Central. It was a battle of cheers and rallies but the score stayed low as the pitchers battled each other. GB took the loss 1-2 in the seventh inning. Klochack allowed five hits, two runs, striking out 12, and walking zero. Despite out-hitting Bay City, we were unable to get our runners in. We didn’t make a single error on the field. LaNya Bates led our hits going three for three and an intentional walk. Rebecca Oetting led in putouts with two.
Our record is now 20-9. Team 3 has finally checked off our first team goal of 20 wins!!! On to our next goal, conference champions and then districts.
We have a double header at home vs Holly Wednesday and Thursday is our last conference game against C/A. We are hoping to bring home the conference championship but need to battle C/A first. We have a strikeout cancer game at Mott CC May 29th with Powers and Davison supporting the cause too.
