Last night Powers and Grand Blanc Participated in our annual STRIKE OUT CANCER Games.
The plan for the day was for everyone to play and for everyone to have fun. Our first game was a three inning affair and was filled with a lot of hits by Grand Blanc. We had 11 hits, 2 each by Lexi Marshall, Olivia Carmody, Abby Perry and Taylor Kolosinski. RBI’s were supplied by 6 different players with 2 by Erica Karl, Kolosinski, and 3 by Marshall. Erica Karl took the mound and faced the minimum 9 batters in the three innings, striking out 6 ( all swinging ), getting 2 ground balls and a pop fly to first and finishing with a PERFECT GAME. Final score GB 15 Powers 0.
The second game we again got 11 hits, by 10 different players, 2 by Abbie Curtis, one being a triple. Haley Schmidt and Olivia Carmody also supplied triples. Those triples were exciting but, the real exciting hit of the game was a line drive single by SKYLAR BANCHOFF who joined our team last week and, got a hit on her second at bat. All of our players went wild. 8 different players scored a run and 7 had RBI’s, 2 by Abby Perry. We used 3 different pitchers in the game. Hope Phillips started it off with one scoreless inning of work, striking out 2. Raelyn DiLorenzo came in for 3 1/3 innings. Rae gave up 1 hit and struck out 4. She also had a scoreless outing, not letting the ball leave the infield. Emmalyn came in to finish off the game getting the last 2 batters, ending the game with a strikeout. The three pitchers combined on a one hit shutout. Final score Grand Blanc 10 Powers 0.
The next game for Grand Blanc is at a tournament in Linden on Saturday: Grand Blanc is in Pool B with First game at 9:00 vs. Swartz Creek followed up by a 10:30 game versus Brighton. A third game will follow depending on the outcome of Pool A.
Now for the Real HIGHLIGHT of the evening: This was our annual STRIKE OUT CANCER game. Every player and coach wore a jersey supporting someone in their life that was affected with cancer. We invited family and friends to the game and had the largest crowd I’ve seen at a JV softball game. Between games we invited everyone to join us on the field and participate while we announced each player and the person they were honoring today. Some players walked by themselves to pitchers mound, others with the family member they were honoring, while the rest of us applauded them. After everyone was announced we all stood together, two teams as one in our support to keep fighting this disease. Lots of pictures, hugs and some tears made for a great event. Thank you to all that participated and helped organize. It was very special to those who were there.
