A Great Day for Softball – The weather was in the high 60’s at game time for the battle against Bay City Western. During warm-ups it looked like we we were going to have a evenly battled game. Pitching for both sides looked good and the game started off in a pitchers duel. Each pitcher only giving up one hit in the first 2 innings. Good pitching continued throughout the game but the error bug jumped up and got Grand Blanc in the field. Erica Karl pitched the whole game and gave up 10 runs ( only 5 earned ) while walking 2 and striking out 3. At the plate our batters scattered some singles, one each by Lexi Marshall, Olivia Carmody, Payton Landry, and Abby Curtis with RBI’s by each of the first 3. Final score Bay City 10 Grand Blanc 3.
Game 2 started where the 1st game left off – Grand Blanc bats quiet, Bay City getting timely hitting and taking advantage of a couple walks . Hope Phillips took the mound and in 5 innings gave up 6 hits and struck out 4. Score after 3 innings Grand Blanc down 7-1. The 4th inning Payton Landry got the momentum turned in our favor with a Home Run over the Right / Center Field Fence – JV’s first of the season. This was followed by a walk and 3 singles and 3 more runs. Bay City then scored 3 in the 4th inning. Top of the 5th Grand Blanc down 10-5. Now here is where the fun starts. With 2 outs Payton Landry comes up to bat again and starts the bats going again with a single followed by a couple walks and a couple more singles and a double by Emmalyn Coon to drive in 2 runs to take the lead 11-10. Now Bay City comes up to bat. Hope Phillips strikes out the first batter, their second batter reaches 1st on a dribble to second base and then steals 2nd on a close play on a throw by Abby Perry. The next batter grounds out and moves the runner to third. Runner on third 2 outs, down by one. Their next hitter, who had been on base 3 times in the game, hit a shot to 1st and Payton Landry made a great play, steps on the bag and 15 Grand Blanc players and their parents celebrate. A great comeback and proud moment for the coach was led by 16 hits, 3 by Marshall, 2 each by Taylor Kolasinski, Summer Brady, Phillips, Coon, Landry and Haley Schmidt.
