Boys Varsity Hockey · Grand Blanc versus Oxford / Avondale

The Grand Blanc Bobcats Varsity Hockey team moved their record to 5-6 after beating the Oxford / Avondale High School team Monday night at the Dort Federal Credit Union Arena.

The Bobcats were down 1-0 in the first period when they allowed a late even strength goal from Oxford / Avondale at the 1:15 mark to conclude a period where the Bobcats dominated puck possession and offensive zone attack time.

In the second, the Bobcats scored at the 16:18 mark, when Hayden Seguin found the back of the net on assists from line mates Owen Walker and Hunter Bankstahl. Oxford / Avondale would answer just 4 minutes later to take a 2-1 lead. On the Power play, Freshman Defensemen Ryan Haden netted his first Varsity goal at the 8:20 mark of the second to send the teams to the locker room tied 2-2 at the end of 2 periods on assists from Seguin and Bankstahl.

In the third, the Bobcats scored at the 13:41 mark when Captain Owen Walker netted his first goal of the evening on feeds from Seguin and Bankstahl who completed the playmaker with his third assist of the game. Later in the third period Walker netted another to ice the game away on a tip from a point shot from Alex Griffel. The 4-2 score would stand up the rest of the way as freshman goalie Luc Roberts earned his 2nd Varsity victory stopping 21 of 23 shots fired at him by an aggressive Oxford team.

“We basically dominated the game tonight is both puck possession and offensive zone attack time. Oxford had little answer to our constant forecheck pressure. The kids played well tonight and continue to grow each game we play. We are also expecting to get a couple of players back in the line up shortly in Brendan Beasinger and Evan Storozhenko that will give us some additional fire power up front offensively. Guys are going to continue to have to work hard as playing time will be up for grabs with the addition of the returning players. But competition is always a good motivator to play hard.”

The next game is at Dort Federal Credit Union arena on Wednesday January 9th against Mount Pleasant at 7:00PM where the Bobcats will look to even their record at 6-6.
