Boys Varsity Track · Grand Blanc Boys finish Track Season @ D-1 State Finals. (5-3-17). East Kentwood HS.

The Grand Blanc Boys Track & Field Team finished the season this past Saturday ( 05-03-17) at The MHSAA D-1 State finals held at East Kentwood High School.  The Team managed to only score 1 point to finish in 55th place overall.  The one point came from a determined group of 3200 meter relay members that had failed to crack the top eight and earn All-State honors for the last three years.  They had finished in the 9th spot the last two State meets.  This year they were not to be denied.  The Team was entered in at 8:04. and after the race was over the team of (Austin Rippee, Larry Popyk, Spencer Atkinson, and JeRonn Body) dropped Twelve seconds to run 7:52.58, one second off the school record and finally earning a spot on the All-State Podium.  The eight and final All-State Spot.  A special note that Sophomore JeRonn Body anchored the relay with a 1:54.89 split.

The 800 meter relay team of ( Anthony Kim, Quinn Broussard, JeRonn Body, and Carter Merrell), gave a great effort but fell short by one place finishing 9th and missing All-State by one spot.  In the process they managed to run 1:28.05  breaking the school record of 1:28.20 that was set back in 2012 by Grand Blanc’s State Championship Relay Team of (Jalen Cureton, Stefon White,  Damonta Madden/Warner, Parker Weatley).

Anthony Kim finished in 10th place in the 400 meter dash with a fine time of 49.50 just missing All-State by

less than a tenth of a second and two spots.

Kendrick Green finished 10th in the Shot Put (50-05.00) missing the top eight by six inches and two spots.

Aidan Martini finished in 17th with a toss of (139-08) short of his last meets season PR of 152.

The good news is that nine of the twelve Bobcat track team  members that competed at this state meet will return next year with much more experience.  The season was an overall success with an undefeated dual record earning a  KLAA west division championship, The KLAA Lakes Conference Championship,  The Regional Championship,  a 7th place at the MITCA Team State Championship,  Two Invitational Championships, A Genesee County Coach Of The Year Award, A School Record 800 meter relay as well as an All-State 3200 meter Relay team at the MHSAA State Meet.  There Will be much to look forward to in 2018 when the Track Season rolls around again.
