Multiple Teams · Varsity Softball

This weekend Grand Blanc Varsity participated in the Stars Tournament.  We walked away with 2 wins out of 5 games.  Each girl played their best in cold windy conditions.  We started Saturday playing Alpena losing 4-5.  LaNya Bates and Zapporah Turner each had multiple hits with Justyce Gilliland batting in two runs.  Bates led the team with 7 stolen bases.  Alpena had no errors where our errors cost us the game.  It was a tough lost but our determination was still strong.  We won the second game against Brandon 12-10.  Maddie Bleicher collected four hits in four at bats.  She doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and out of the park homerun in the fifth.  GB Varsity Bleicher, Olivia Jackson, Maddie Vansaw, and Justyce Gilliland each collected multiple hits with Gilliland, Bleicher, and Madyson Roover each driving in three runs.  Keely Carlson pitched for the win and Kierstyn Muma came in for the save.  Our third game for Saturday was against Almont with a tough loss 1-2.  The pitching was strong on both sides, Almont gave us 3 ks while we gave them 4. Our errors allowed them to score.  Maddie Bleicher, LaNya Bates, Zapporah Turner, Brie Broderick, and Madyson Roover all had one hit. This was a battle.

Sunday we woke up to frost on the ground but we heated up quickly to win against Renaissance, a young team, 11-4.  We took the lead in the second inning when Olivia Jackson hit a single bringing in a run as well as Abby Whitt bringing in two runs.  Keely Carlson struck out three.  Justyce Gilliland, Ally Whitt,   Maddie Bleicher, Abby Whitt, Savannah Everett, and Olivia Jackson all hit.  Coming off a slower pitcher to a 60+ mph pitcher proved difficult for us to adjust as we fell to Millington.  LaNya Bates provided a hit in the 4th but we couldn’t rally behind her.  Our stamina and energy seemed too low our 5th game.

Last night Grand Blanc Varsity Softball traveled to Walled Lake Western for a single game.  We ended up with a win in the books 13-11.  Kierstyn Muma carried the team with excellent pitching when the defense fell apart a couple innings with 10 strikeouts.  Our bats, which have been quiet, woke up for this game.  Sam Brimmer batted a .1000, Justyce Gilliland had 4 RBIs, and Kierstyn Muma had 4 QABs.   Justyce Gilliland has been showing great leadership and strong catching ability behind the plate, then came up to bat and nailed a triple to rally us in the 5th inning.  These girls are definitely working hard as a team.  Tonight we head to Pinckney for a double header.

Grand Blanc Varsity Softball split with Pinckney.  We took an early lead in the first inning but ended 7-9. Maddie Bleicher drove in one when she singled in the first inning.  We scored five runs in the second inning but couldn’t keep the lead as Pinckney took it over for good in the fourth inning.  Grand Blanc Bobcats Varsity scored on an out of the park home run by Zapporah Turner, a single by Maddie Vansaw, and a double from Maddie Bleicher.  Bleicher led Grand Blanc Bobcats Varsity with four runs batted in. She went 3-for-4 in the first game.  Samantha Brimmer lead defensively with 7 putouts and Justyce Gilliand had 3.

Second game Grand Blanc Bobcats bats were on fire with a big 24-5 win.  Olivia Jackson drove in 6 tonight on three hits.  She brought in a run on a walk in the first, a out of the park home run in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the third.  Keely Carlson earned the win for Grand Blanc in three innings.  We had 15 hits in this game. Olivia Jackson, LaNya Bates, Gracie Garnett, Maddie Bleicher, and Ryanne Kilgore each collected multiple hits for us.  Savannah Everett, Zapporah Turner, and Ally Whitt both had two putouts each to help shutdown Pinckney.

Wednesday we will be in Brighton for a double header.
